Artist Statement:
My paintings' theme is imagination and the dream-like world, a surreal world without gravity. My concept is to allow the mind to create a sense of freedom, exploration, desire, curiosity, and humor. The idea is to engage the viewer for a possible moment with the subject creating thought, imagination conversation, and a sense of humor. The narrative thoughts behind these paintings reflect human life, history, and mythology. It is my statement as I am in touch with time.

I strive to create a deeper dimension in my paintings to give the feeling of the images disappearing into the unknown. I think psychologically, humans are curious to know more and naturally bring themselves to unusual subjects.

In a world where the roles and expectations placed upon women continue to shift and evolve, the significance of strength and endurance has taken on a new and profound meaning. My collection of abstract female figurative sculptures is a reflection of this evolving narrative, seeking to capture the power, resilience, and unwavering endurance that women embody in today's society.

These sculptures transcend mere artistic expression; they serve as visual narratives, portraying the complexities and struggles faced by women in contemporary times. They stand as testaments to the fortitude that women draw upon daily, whether in the realms of family, career, personal challenges, or the ongoing fight for equality and justice.

The abstract nature of these sculptures speaks to the multifaceted and ever-changing roles that women play. They defy traditional norms and societal expectations, embodying the fluidity and adaptability inherent in women's lives. Each curve, form, and texture tells a story.

Delicate nuance of value and texture become tools in conveying powerful dramatic statements about earthly beings who are not afraid to wonder, think, dream, and take that one step beyond.

The inhabitants of the cosmic atmosphere appear to be at odds with their surroundings (many of which are actual, specifically named astronomical objects). This is the result when the merely earthly confronts its unavoidable connection to the awe, mystery, and majesty of the heavens.

However, when fragile earthly beauty confronts sublime heavenly beauty, the earthly is reverently and silently humbled.

My work considers our experience of the passage of time and our lives. The functions and growth beyond our control tend to proceed unnoticed. As an artist trained in photography, I often contemplate what it means to capture a moment that will never exist again and will pass by too quickly to be adequately experienced, enjoyed, and cataloged. As a mixed media artist, I take this concept further to question what it means to actively remain present for these passing moments. How can they be documented and truly experienced? How many will be fully remembered in the fleeting seconds that amount to a lifetime? What of them remains tangible or visible?

The pieces I have submitted for this application are very different consciousness experiences. 'Occipital' is one part of a two-part series contemplating the experience of un/consciousness. 'Rage' and 'The Dreamer' each illustrate, in different ways, the images that appear in our dreams. Like 'Occipital,' we have no choice over what we see.

Dreams are the reality of the inner self, or perhaps another self existing in another dimension, in a parallel universe. Yet, at the same time, they are a part of the outer self living in a world we call reality, a world we perceive through our senses. Some cultures, like the Aborigines in Australia, tell us the sensory world is actually the dream. As we explore these worlds, our perceptions, whether conscious, sub-conscious, or unconscious, become more layered and blended. That is what I hope to reveal in my artwork, a melding of the realms we live in: dream, reality, and in between.

As an abstract digital photographer, I celebrate the natural world by creating hallucinatory blooms of the imagination. In this realm of intense colors, shapes, and textures, I work exclusively with my iPhone11, from the initial image to the end result. In this way I get to explore the limitless possibilities that apps, layering, and blending give to me. These improvisations often result in images that are particularly painterly, and offer viewers a blissfully sensory experience. My daily rituals of shaping and sharing these abstract flowers have become an oasis of both serenity and creativity for me in a very troubled world.

Artist Statement:
I am interested in the rhythm and flow of natural forces. I make digitally-manipulated images meant to immerse viewers in the chaos of the natural environment. Most of my work for the last ten years consists of abstracted photographs, using Photoshop to make tonal alterations and layering in various combinations. This causes a reduction of recognition but increased complexity.

Subjects are more or less recognizable in the final prints. They are always grounded in common reality and composed in camera. I use natural elements as subjects because of their evocative forms. For example, a stalk of grass can mimic a gestural brushstroke. Viewers frequently think my abstract images ARE paintings.

The bond between humans and other living systems is instinctive, and sometimes whimsical, not requiring labels and measurements. The combination of digital technology and a longing for beauty evokes the moment - and environment - in which we find ourselves.

I have always been fascinated with life's mysteries that often lie outside of our culture's established norms and find that abstraction departs from the prosaic to challenge our perceptions of our everyday world. These images, part of an ongoing series entitled "A Stranger in a Strange Land" are, initially, photographic captures of paint deteriorating on rusting metal. The textures are inherent. The final colors, tonality and composition are the result of my subsequent response to the subject matter. The artworks are vibrant and textural compositions with an abstract portrayal that features a palette rich in color. The use of light is dramatic, with luminous qualities that seem to radiate from within creating a portal for transmuting the temporal to the empyreal. As an explorer in a landscape barren of familiarity I am free to journey through my own mindful metaphors. The viewer is invited to as well.

They taught me many different of art, but one thing they did not teach me how art and I are connecting to each other. Creative mind is the source of art, and speaking inside of me all the time, how about this, it always gives me the idea of what to do, so I create the ideas from my creative mind, so those are the same source comes from it is me. I create art because it is from inside of me and comes from outside also as energy forms. I call those art.

This series "Movement Interrupted" uses the visual effects of data corruption glitches to create dream-like imagery that happens spontaneously. I am photographing my TV screen when it pixelates due to uneven reception. The images appear for a split second before disappearing forever, stretching the colors, lines, and shapes into a new format from recognizable to almost abstract. This method is almost like magic when the images appear and I am there to capture that moment. The allegorical paintings of Roe LiBretto incorporate an innovative watercolor technique ritualizing her acknowledgment that a painting is the physical manifestation of information found in what Carl Jung referred to as the collective unconscious. The grainy texture of each piece is created by painting over a finished watercolor with a topcoat of tempera paint and, after that is dry, washing the painting. This technique imbues her work with an antique quality, reflecting the timeless story each painting portrays. Born in Brooklyn, Roe studied at the Brooklyn Museum, the School of Visual Arts, and City College of New York. Her drawings and sculptures have been exhibited internationally and she received commissions, from the New York City Cultural Council and the Massachusetts State Council on the Arts. Roe's allegories are internationally collected and can be seen on her website roelibrettofineart.com, and in galleries in New Mexico and Massachusetts.

I am an abstract painter based in Kittery, Maine. My work explores themes of authenticity, spirituality, and humanity's connection to nature through expressive brushwork and an intuitive painting process. By abstracting elements from the New England landscape that inspires me, I aim to create works that are emotionally resonant and evoke a sense of the sublime.

My process is very organic and in-the-moment. I build up layers of paint, scraping some areas away while allowing others to remain, creating a dynamic surface with depth and movement. Paint is allowed to drip, flow, and merge in unplanned ways. This spontaneous method taps into my subconscious and unlocks personal symbology from my own psyche and emotions.

Ultimately, my goal is to communicate universal truths about the human condition and our spiritual relationship to the natural world. My paintings serve as a gateway for viewers to access their own introspection and find their own personal meaning within the abstract forms and gestures.

Art is my journey to the soul, a pathway to rediscover the free-spirited child within. With each stroke of the brush and every piece I create, I aim to breathe life into my inner world and share it with others.

For me, art is about embracing perfection with imperfection. It's about freedom, about breaking boundaries, and about reinventing myself with every new canvas I encounter.

In my collections, I love to combine acrylic with oil paint, pastels oil, acrylic pencils, inks, collages and many more. There are no rules in my artistic journey, I impregnate myself with the most important element: Freedom. Through my art, I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery, to reconnect with your inner child, and to experience the joy and freedom that comes with creative expression. Let's explore the depths of our souls together and rediscover the beauty of creating perfection through imperfection.

Artist Statement:
My art has focused on ship forms for many years. This started while living in Western New Mexico; allowing me to explore the form as a metaphorical vehicle without literal associations to the sea. Through my travels and experiences, the ship has remained ever-present, changing in character, material, and rationale as a carrier of meanings.

My art explores aspects of individual experiences, memory, spiritual passages, and transitional states – all through works on paper, sculptures, and site-specific installations. Memory is etched in our minds with personal perspectives. In addition, the profound sense of palpable presence I have experienced at spiritual places I find overwhelming at times.

The works on paper have symbolic meaning. These reference my experiences in New Mexico exploring Anasazi Indian environments and my travels in Iceland visiting mythic geographic sites. These works are imbued with a spirit ship as flowing movement, center expanding spiral forms, and recognizable hulls.

As an abstract artist, my artistic style revolves around my fascination with color and form. I place great emphasis on the beauty and expression that color can bring, often layering different hues together to create visually captivating compositions. I find myself drawn to more modern aesthetics, preferring clean lines and distinct forms in my artwork. I am particularly drawn to the simplicity and precision that clean lines and forms offer. Whether incorporating geometric shapes or organic forms, I seek to create a sense of balance and order within my artwork.

In my creative process, color takes center stage as the main element of my expression. I enjoy exploring a wide range of colors, and mixed media, experimenting with their various shades, tones, and combinations. By layering colors together, I aim to evoke a sense of depth and complexity in my pieces, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the visual experience.

I work with the controlled oxidation of iron, copper, and bronze metal effects paints which creates patina, a thin layer of oxidation that forms on the surface through age and exposure. The process yields natural yet dramatic effects that convey the passage of time.

When I was in my early 20s, I had the opportunity to view the Mark Rothko retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. I was enthralled, found myself lost in spiritual reverie and experienced a sense of the sublime too great to be expressed in words. I seek to capture some of that sense of awe that Rothko's work evokes and create paintings that transcend the familiar and the merely decorative.

In traditional Japanese art, wabi-sabi is an aesthetic view centered on the acceptance of imperfection. It is a composite of Wabi (austere beauty) and sabi (rustic patina ). My paintings and sculptures evoke a sense of serene melancholy and spiritual longing, the very essence of wabi-sabi.

My identity as a mother and caregiver is intertwined with my role as an artist. Understanding the behavior of materials and using processes akin to domestic tasks fosters a sense of familiarity with forms and muscle memory. This enables me to engage with the nuances of the materials, their responsiveness to my hands, and the fusion of clay shaping and the use of kitchen tools in my creative process.

My work traverses the domestic realm through the use of tools and themes centered around pregnancy, children, and motherhood, interwoven with memories and traditions from my life in China.

In my recent artworks, I draw inspiration from the natural forms of organisms and integrate them into sculptures crafted from resin clay. By capturing the dynamic shapes and intricate details of nature, rooted in my childhood memories, I convey the diverse emotions and states experienced by women during their journey of growth. My artworks invite viewers to explore the hidden complexities within the monochromatic surfaces.

I have dedicated to the combination of artistic creation and abstract landscape for a long time, painting originated from the linear structure of calligraphy to paint, using the pen to be imaginary and changing the space with the color to the picture, often showing natural dripping waves. The temperament of splash, impact, coldness, and lushness, accompanied by chaos and flying, creates another Zen image.

From 8 years ago to now, everyone knows that the world has undergone historic changes, which our generation has experienced and witnessed, and which has also made me learn so much, much more than I have learned in my life. The so-called art comes from life. As an artist, I use my method to present this feeling with a modern and unique expression technique. It is also my feeling and reaction to this reality. I think it is based on the times. Works are the trajectory of an era, and they are worthy of us leaving a mark on this reality.
