Delicate nuance of value and texture become tools in conveying powerful dramatic statements about earthly beings who are not afraid to wonder, think, dream, and take that one step beyond.
The inhabitants of the cosmic atmosphere appear at odds with their surroundings (many of which are actual, specifically named astronomical objects). This is the result when the merely earthly confronts its unavoidable connection to the awe, majesty, and mystery of the heavens.
However, when fragile earthly beauty confronts sublime heavenly beauty, the earthly is reverently and silently humbled.

Artists may paint or draw worlds that do not exist, but photographers capture the existing world from their point of view.
In 2017 over 1.2 trillions photographs were taken of the existing world, and it is hard to find a place or thing that has not been photographed.
Therefore, I find myself drawn to the "Edge of Reality". I enjoy abstract and macro photograph, and I have fallen in love with infrared photography. Seeing in my mind, Light that cannot be seen with the human eye.

I have been expressing my joy of art with paint, shapes and colors since I was very young. I started as a painter, evolved into a photographer, and eventually began hand-painting on my Cibachrome photographic prints over 35 years ago. Before Photoshop I found a way to express a unrealistic reality with the vivid, saturated and unrealistic colors I painted into each individual photographic print. For the past 30 years I have been scanning my one- of-a-kind hand-painted prints and my library of 35mm Kodachrome color transparencies taken over the last 50 years of traveling the world. I love to paint, combine and enhance them with Photoshop, creating my own idyllic beautiful, mysterious and colorful world!

The artist focuses on images of nature found in our daily lives. Yet, when taken out of context and composed within new "frame works", the same natural phenomena can be elevated to reveal unique combinations of light, texture, shapes, and color.
What other artists say about B. Gorin's work: R. Tzvi Freeman, who writes of Gorin's work: "Beauty is captured here on the page, yet retains its freedom. The borders of the page's frame, rather than restricting our view, draw us inward to reveal boundless wonder. Somehow, in the focus of B. Gorin's camera, we discover that infinity was hiding all along in plain sight".
Michoel Muchnik, esteemed artist, writes of his work: "B. Gorin's photographs and their accompanying meditative style insights help us develop a more intimate look at our Creator's handiwork, as it were. The best part about it is the inspiration we gain to look around us on our own, to become ever more aware of the lessons we can learn from even the minutest details."

I have always been fascinated with life's mysteries that often lie outside of our culture's established norms and find that abstraction departs from the prosaic to challenge our perceptions of our everyday world. These images, part of an ongoing series entitled "A Stranger in a Strange Land" are, initially, photographic captures of paint deteriorating on rusting metal. The textures are inherent. The final colors, tonality and composition are the result of my subsequent response to the subject matter. The artworks are vibrant and textural compositions with an abstract portrayal that features a palette rich in color. The use of light is dramatic, with luminous qualities that seem to radiate from within creating a portal for transmuting the temporal to the empyreal. As an explorer in a landscape barren of familiarity I am free to journey through my own mindful metaphors. The viewer is invited to as well.

Art is to me, it is a same as my life, I cannot breathe without it. I decided to be an artist without any question. I studied 4 years at the Tokyo University of Art. They taught me many different of art, but one thing they did not teach me how art and I are connecting to each other. Creative mind is the source of art, and speaking inside of me all the time, how about this, it always gives me the idea of what to do, so I create the ideas from my creative mind, so those are the same source comes from it is me. I create art because it is from inside of me and comes from outside also as energy forms. I call those art.

I took these photos at an indoor art event, where I became mesmerized by the interplay of light and dark as it reflected on the floor and onto the people. For me this created an ethereal atmosphere of transformation that became almost magical. There was something mysterious and 'other worldly' occurring between darkness going into light - a spiritual evolution of some sort that had nothing to do with the event itself. These images are Dye Sublimation prints on metal in editions of 5, varying sizes. Printing on metal rather than paper allows the metal surface to shine through the image, adding another layer of depth to the piece. This works especially well to enhance the concept of alchemy of light.

I encounter the world through photography, striving to see and know the forms and spirit of things. I explore the glory & pathos, the heroism & hubris of humanity and our struggle to find and create meaning. One influence is Georgia O'Keeffe, who could draw a banana plant or paint a landscape pregnant with the human condition. Another is Margaret Bourke-White, who saw beauty in industry. Themes include #PerformanceArt, #HardHatArt, #EarthAbstracts, #CreatureEncounter, #IntimateLandscape, #ArchitecturalAbstracts. Framing is a foundational aesthetic and tool of the photographer. Imposing frames on reality profoundly disrupts reality, isolating, freezing, re-presenting a fragment of time and space, which humans by and large experience as continuous. Whatever my subject-nature, industry, architecture-I use abstraction, framing and techniques like selective focus, color, and monochrome to transform telling details and fleeting insights into an invitation to viewers to see and know as well.

Drawing from personal experiences shaped by nature, yoga, and diverse cultures, my art delves into the delicate balance between freedom and stability, wilderness and comfort. Through abstract paintings and paper sculptures, I aim to evoke emotions and sensations, employing intentional color choices and rhythmic patterns to create a slow and transformative process. I hope to prompt viewers to reflect on the dual nature within us all-the urge to explore alongside the need for stability.
Celebrating unity amidst diversity, my work finds inspiration in the beauty of nature and the lessons learned from my yoga journey. These elements drive my ongoing creative exploration, inviting viewers to engage with themes of interconnectedness and self-discovery.

Living in Minnesota, we have so much beauty right in our backyards or within driving distance and much of the scenery includes water. Its hard not to take a scenic image here that doesn't have a lake, river, or pond as a central part of it. While not all of my paintings have had water in them and not all of my paintings are Minnesota images; most of my work is from Minnesota and does include water. Being a watercolor artist, water is always a part of work no matter if it is depicted in the images or not.
For this reason; it is only natural to adopt the theme Water Colors by Rick as the theme by which to identify what I do in painting.

I work with acrylics, oil colors and crayons on canvas, and like to work in groups of paintings exploring one theme.
My current paintings are both an exploration and a response to my bi-cultural experience weaving together the German with the American- the softer colors and light in Germany with the wilder, bolder colors and the intense light in NM. Both opposites feed into my works when I create imaginary landscapes, translating the beauty and energetics of the natural world into an abstract composition of color and movement.

"Soul Searching" was inspired by this poem by the 13th century poet, Rumi:
"There is a life-force within your soul, seek that life.
There is a gem in the mountain of your body,
seek that mine.
O traveler, if you are in search of That
Don't look outside, look inside yourself and seek That."
I draw inspiration from the interplay of light and shadow in nature, as well as in faces and figures and my work invites the viewers to delve into the subtle nuances of emotions and imagination. I aspire my creations to stand as testament to the uniqueness inherent in every portraiture and figurative piece.

Light is heat, color determines temperature. Does light speed determine time or or does time define light speed? Stars, being the hottest objects in the universe, form into massive spherical objects radiating light, heat and gravitational pull. From Stonehenge to medieval calendars to analog wristwatches, humans have attempted to employ circular motifs to harness moments of light and understand the passage of time in relationship to space and the physical world in which we exist. My interest lies in the investigation, through the medium of abstract painting, of our perception and translation of these elements, both tangible and intangible. My circles creates a container that act as a metaphor representing to the endless nature of time, space and infinity. The perimeter of these pieces consist of multiple circles, loaded with rapidly applied brushstrokes of hot and cold color, tightly compressed within hard-edge boundaries that surround the central space of ethereal fields of color.

Using mixed media techniques, I can capture various aspects of my practice, from drawing to sewing, to represent the surrounding landscape and memories. Each mark holds a moment of inspiration or importance. Through repetition, I create spaces for reflection and meditation on where I have been and where I am now.
I want a feel of escape that comes from taking the time to be one with nature and to really appreciate the beauty around all of us. Whether it's the inscriptions on the ground, the patterns of the hills, or the textures that pop up in the flat prairies, these are moments capture me and I want to bring that to the viewer.
We get so caught up in what's happening around us that we don't take the time to look at the small endeavors right before our eyes. Once I opened my eyes and saw the tranquility and peacefulness that's happening in these small moments, I found peace and strength within myself in this big world.

Artist Statement:
I've been an artist since childhood; it's the fundamental compulsion in my psyche.
So why should it be embarrassing to share what I'm about?
Part of my discomfort is cultural: I'm from an English and Irish family primarily, and neither culture likes a showoff. Does an artist statement have to be showing off? Of course not. But many of them sound ego-inflated and pretentious to my ear because I didn't go to Art School and am not familiar with the Art World's patois. The lingo. Especially not the publicity angles!
I'm an outsider.
I'm an outsider artist who is still teaching myself the History of Art, and still looking at as much work of others as I can from cave paintings on because I came to the Art world late.
For over 30 years, I was a writer- composer, but was in a car crash in 2013 where my brain was pretty seriously banged up -- bleeding. That injury left me with a hearing condition.

I work with the controlled oxidation of iron, copper, and bronze metal effects paints which creates patina, a thin layer of oxidation that forms on the surface through age and exposure. Under natural weathering, a patina layer takes many years to develop, but it can also be produced by spraying the paint with a chemical reagent, which is what I do. The process yields natural yet dramatic effects that convey the passage of time.
My paintings and sculptures evoke a sense of serene melancholy and spiritual longing, the very essence of wabi-sabi. I also strive to infuse my work with anima, the vital principle or animating force within all living things.

“As a contemporary artist, my passion lies in the realm of surrealism and the vibrant essence of the animal kingdom. My unique style is a testament to my admiration for the whimsical charm of 20th-century animation and the rich tapestry of surrealistic art. The luminous hues of acrylic paint serve as the perfect medium to convey the vivacity of my personality. With a storied career as a glass artist, I honed my craft in the intricate art of borosilicate millefiori, creating scene marbles that captured the imagination. Though my days of lampworking have drawn to a close, my journey in the arts continues through the brushstrokes of painting. It’s a fulfilling transition that enables me to breathe life into my creations. I live by the mantra: ‘Live life in full color’—a reflection of my commitment to a world awash with color.”
